sleeping bliss

So the Supreme Hottie buys a 2-pack of those high-density memory foam pillows the other day. She bought one for herself and one for Little B. I think the pair cost like $40 or so. They're not TempurPedic, as those cost $100+ each. They're just a knock-off brand.

After one night, she informed me that she hated hers and would I want to give it a try. I said sure. I've always wanted a TempurPedic bed, and I guess this is the next best thing for the time being. so I tried it.

When I laid my head down on this thing for the first time, I thought it slightly uncomfortable . . . for the first 10 seconds. Then I was in love. I was able to use it while laying on my back or on my side (I'm a side sleeper).

The first night I used it, I awoke in the same position I was when I went to sleep six hours prior. I had never moved. I move and re-adjust constantly while I sleep. Not any more. I'm so comfortable with this pillow, and my sleep is so much more restful, that I have started saving my loose change for a Tempur Pedic bed. I should have enough to buy on in eleven or twelve years. I can't wait!

oh man, i splurged and bought one of those last year. so nice. it took a little getting used to -- rolling over requires more commitment since you sink into it a bit, but it's really quite comfy.

You bought the pillow or the whole bed?

I recently bought a 4" memory foam mattress topper. I can't say whether it's as good as a full mattress, but it gets the job done. The same bed that gave me lower back pain every morning for a year is now super comfortable and I have no soreness at all anymore. The mattress toppers are a lot more affordable than the full mattresses! I bought mine on Overstock.

Sweet! I might look into that. Problem is, my mattress is really horrible. Not sure I'd have enough support to get the proper usage out of the topper. Perhaps if I just buy a cheap mattress ($300 or less) and a topper, it would get the job done.

That would probably do it. I have an old mattress and boxspring that I bought from Ploink when he moved overseas. I don't even use a bedframe, it just sits on the floor - more of a nest than a bed, really. But you might not need to do that... I would say start with the topper, and if it's still an issue then also replace the bed.

Overstock

We got our foam off of overstock.com, king for $500 (you can get that price a number of places). 9", single density, and, "Aahhh." When I used to snore, my wife would bail out to the spare room, now, I get banished (I snore less, too).

Re: Overstock

I have a full-sized bed, and the 10" memory foam mattress is only $349! holy crap! Thanks for the link!

Re: Overstock

A full sized bed? Do you sleep by yourself?

Two things that I don't skimp on are a good bed and comfortable shoes since I'm usually on my feet or sleeping.

I solved my mattress problem with Science! Many years ago, i bought a 3" mattress pad and cover from Bergad (www.isoform.com) for a tiny fraction of the price of a TempurPedic mattress (including the UPS shipping to my door). It just needs a non-mushy surface underneath, like a firm mattress or futon. The result is a sleeping surface that is roughly 217.4 times better than any spring mattress in existence. Roughly. YMMV.

When i moved to Europe, i sought out and bought a memory foam pad on the third day -- before we even had our own place. How's that for an endorsement?

Outstanding. My only problem is that I have a sunken-in old mattress, so there's no good foundation for the pad.

I'm trying to convince my wife that $349 and practically free shipping from Overstock is worth it. I think she'll cave and let me get that one.

Of course, the woman is difficult to cave sometimes.
